When someone tries to repost your Instagram post but finds out that the “Add post to your story” button is missing, this means that you need to allow them to share your stories.

Instagram has always had updates to bring to the table, and many users aren’t aware of these updates.

Most of the updates that happen are always tested as a beta feature on the Instagram app.

One of these tests is the “Reshare” button that was tested for a couple of months in 2021 then disappeared.

So some users still think that the Reshare button on the stories still exists, while the truth is it disappeared and the test is ended.

However, allowing users to repost your posts on their stories is done from the “Settings”.

Today I will teach you how to allow others to repost your post on Instagram.

How To Allow Others to Repost Your Post on Instagram

To allow others to repost your post on Instagram, go to the Privacy page on the settings, then tap on Story to allow the sharing.

When you enable the sharing option, others will be able to repost all your posts including the old ones.

The “Add post to your story” button will also show up after enabling the sharing option.

Keep in mind that if your account is private, can’t see the “Allow sharing to story” option.

This means that you need to make your account private in order to get access to this feature.

Perhaps you prefer to keep it private, you can tell others to take screenshots of your posts to repost them.

1.Open your Instagram Settings

Open Instagram settings

Start by opening your Instagram app and going to the settings page.

To go to the settings page simply tap on the three horizontal lines icon in the top right corner, then tap on “Settings” in the new popup.

When the settings page opens, you will find multiple options.

However, you need to go to the Privacy page.

2.Tap on “Privacy”

Tap the Privacy option

Now that you’ve opened the settings page, you need to tap on the “Privacy” option.

Then you will be navigated to a new page.

On that page, tap on the “Story” option as you need to allow others to repost your post on their Instagram stories.

When the story page opens, head over to the “Sharing” menu.

To find the sharing menu, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page.

3.Enable the “Allow Sharing to Story” option

Switch the Allow Sharing to story button ON to allow others to repost your post on Instagram

After seeing the “Sharing” menu, you can see the “Save story to archive” option.

If you can’t see the “Allow sharing to story” option, it’s very likely because your account is private.

So you need to make your Instagram account public in order to allow others to repost your post.

To make your Instagram account public:

  1. Open your Settings page
  2. Tap on the “Privacy” option
  3. Toggle the “Private Account” switch off on the “Privacy” page
  4. Tap on “Switch to public” in the new popup that will occur

When you see the “Allow Sharing to Story” button, you need to toggle the switch ON.

Then your post will be available for reposting by all the other users on Instagram.

4.Tell others that you allow them now to repost on Instagram

Tell your friends that you allowed them to share your posts

When you enable the Sharing to story button, you can tell your friends who tried to find the button but haven’t found it.

So they need to restart the app in order for changes to apply to your account on their part.

To restart the app, they simply need to kill it from the window of the running apps.

After they restart their apps, they will be able to see the “Add post to your story” button.

This means that you allow them now to repost your posts on Instagram.

Why Can’t My Friends Share My Instagram Story?

Before and After switching the button to allow others to repost your post on Instagram

Because the button “Add post to your story” is not showing, which means that you haven’t allowed them yet to share your post.

To allow them, first, your account needs to be a public account, from the “Settings > Privacy > Private Account (Should be Turned OFF)”.

Then you can enable the feature from the “Settings > Privacy > Story > Allow Sharing on Story”.

If you have a private account you won’t be able to allow others to repost your post on their story.

You can tell them to take a screenshot and repost it if you want to keep your account private.

Where Is the Reshare Sticker on Instagram?

The Reshare sticker was introduced by Instagram in July 2021 as a beta feature to be tested, then they decided to end the test by removing it from the Instagram stories.

However, the alternative method is by using the “Add to your story” button.

So if you want to allow others to repost your posts, you need to enable the “Allow Sharing to Story” button from the Instagram settings.

This method allows only your posts to be reshared, yet, if you want other users to share your stories they have to take a screenshot of them, then share them.

Otherwise, they can visit 3rd party websites to download your stories, then post them on their story.

There are three of these 3rd party websites which are StorySaverSave-InstaInflact.

Users can simply open the website and add the desired account name on the empty box whether it was yours or someone else’s account, then hit the “Download” button.

Conclusion

Instagram stories are the most interesting part when it comes to engaging whether with your followers or fans.

However, if your account is private you won’t be able to get the full benefits of Instagram features.

So to allow others to repost your post on Instagram, you need to do it only from the Story page on the Settings.

Today you’ve learned how to allow others to repost your post on Instagram.
