Getting the location of your friends on Snapchat helps you to know where they actually are, so you may wonder how accurate is a Snapchat map.
Using the Snapchat map connects you with your friends from all around the globe.
If you have friends in the US you will be able to see them on the Snap Map if they activated the location sharing.
In addition to that, you can see your other friends in other countries as well.
The Snapchat map accuracy plays a big role in providing you with the potential to be able to find where your friend really is.
However, the Snap map is accurate as well as the Google Map, yet, there are different factors to consider that may affect the accuracy of the location.
So today I will show you how accurate is the Snapchat Map and how to use it.
How does the Snapchat location work?
Snapchat’s location or so-called Snap Map, which is powered by Mapbox, uses technology to show you the exact place of your friends on the map.
It has the same principle as Google Map location recognition.
The Snap Map has a very accurate recognition when it comes to showing your friends on the map.
Each of your friends’ emojis will appear on the map, so you can check where they are when they open the app only, otherwise, you can’t see the exact actual location if they’re OFF Snapchat.
However, only your friends can show up on the map, and not other users.
How Accurate Is Snapchat Map?
Snapchat Map is very accurate as it uses your mobile technology to show you the exact current location of your contacts on the Snap Map when they are online.
What makes it a distinct feature, is that it shows you the different angles of the location on the map.
However, if your friend’s phone is an old phone and their GPS is weak, you may find have trouble finding them accurately.
In general, the Snap Map displays the last time when the location recognition happened on your friend’s phone.
For example, you may see that your friend was in the restaurant 24 minutes ago.
This means that they could be that they still are in that spot.
So you will only be able to see the current location of your friend if they were actually active, which will show you that they were in that location for 2 or 3 minutes.
Why Is Snapchat Showing the Wrong Location of My Friend?
When Snapchat shows you a wrong location it can happen due to an error in the network cell tower, which leads to showing you a wrong GPS location.
This will affect how accurate Snapchat Map will be in showing you the exact location.
So you may need to wait for a couple of minutes then try again.
After you try again but get the same issue, you may need to restart the app.
However, if you can’t see some of your friends on the map, it’s most likely because they’ve enabled Ghost Mode.
This means that they will no longer appear on the Snap Map until they enable the location sharing again.
The same applies to you, if you’re comfortable sharing your location you can enable it.
In addition to that, if they have a connection problem or their phone doesn’t support good GPS recognition, you may see them in the wrong location.
You need to consider the server errors that may occur on Snapchat also.
Does Snap Map Show Who Looked at Your Location?
No, if you tap on your friends’ emoji, Snapchat won’t notify them that you viewed their location, yet you can still see their location when they are active or away.
You will see the last time when they were active in a specific location.
For example, if you see your friend on the Snap Map with 3 m (minute) next to their emojis, this means that they were recently active and in that location, which is accurate.
If you see 1 hour near their emojis on the map, this means that they may be left the location or still there but not active on Snapchat for 1 hour.
Now there is the explore feature that shows you events on the map in the form of Snap stories.
When you check these stories, the publisher will be able to see who has viewed their story.
To use the Explore feature, you can simply tap on the “Earth” icon in the top right corner of the Snap Map.
Keep in mind that if you don’t want someone to see your location on the Snap Map, you can enable Ghost Mode.
Snapchat map is useful to let you know what’s happening around you in the world.
With the explore feature, you can see events that you may have never heard off on each country.
In terms of Snapchat accuracy, it’s nearly like Google Maps and gives you the same accuracy, which is optimal.
However, the phone needs to have a good GPS and a high-end network connection signal to show you an accurate location.
Otherwise, you will see the wrong location of your friends on the Snap Map.
In some cases, Snapchat server or connection errors may occur, which may show you the wrong location.
So today you’ve learned how accurate is the Snapchat map and how to use it.
